New versions for Symbian and Android

Listen up Symbian & Android fringsters!

As you know, at fring we keep listening to your requests and aside from bringing you the latest and brightest your mobile can offer- we work hard to improve what’s already out there.

Symbian users- pay attention…

  • Changing your status is now as easy as 1,2,3. Let your friends know if you are online, offline, busy, or you can just stay invisible if you don’t want to be disturbed; all in the click of a button!
  • And yes- you’ve been asking for it and it’s finally here- DTMF. Now dialing “#” (“pound”) and “*” sign (“star”) is possible to use within a call through the new fring dialer.

*Bonuses for our Nokia touch users…

  • Twitter 2.0 just got a brand-new look, making it easier for you to post your tweets, re-tweet and follow friend’s, from wherever you are. See full tweets and links on one screen & easily navigate between them.
  • Like your chats to be even livelier? You’ll love live links inside your fring chat.

Also as you may recall, we previously launched our in-chat advertising a few months ago. Now we are expanding our ads campaign into additional Symbian devices.

Android users- worry not, we are not leaving you out. A new and improved version is now out for you too. The new version includes voice, connectivity and stability improvements in addition to the following requested settings:

  1. Hide/Show offline buddies
  2. Hide/Show address book
  3. Privacy settings for IM signature and mood message
  4. A fix for the audio issues on Motorola DROID and Milestone
  5. Better support for Google’s Nexus One
  6. Bug fixes (thank you all for your feedback!)

See full list of new Symbian version 4.1 & Android version 1.2.0.25 features here.

Download the new versions today!

**Video update:

We know that some of you are still waiting for more devices to be supported with video calls (yes yes, E71 users… we know you’re out there), so the news is that we’re working on it. We’ll be supporting more devices soon so stay tuned.

We are kicking in the New Year with more customer satisfaction improvements that you’ve been asking for…so keep following our news for lots of surprises coming up in 2010.

Enjoy,

The fringTEAM

    please make sure all versions of fring available to download. Because if new version does not support any mobile then we can use old version. Never think everyone needs all features, someone needs only chat, someone needs audio call, someone video call and more… so make sure all can use the Fring….. thanks

    I keep a personal archive of every s60 version for just this reason. Fring’s testing can sometimes leave a little to be desired. :)

    Now I can’t even call through Skype, when y tap on “Call” it gives me an “stopped working” error and the application restarts itself. I was so excited and now so sad that it doesn’t work.

    If you need more details of this error please contact me!

    One more thing, when I using fring for chat, when new message comes in, the chatting windows automatically shows up and honestly its very very bothering. because sometime, I ussually chatting and browsing for the time.

    Can you find the way out for my problem.

    Great to hear that Skype Video calls are now possible also on a mobile phone. However you download section for Nokia phones is not working.

    I’ve tried to download the .sis file for N82 but I get no file to download, only this page: http://www.fring.com/downloadthanks.php

    the chinese oicq, now qq.com company is ten billions and listed in hk index. why you icq guys lose? this is because you just don’t listen to users. i tried msn with fring on Htc Magic and uninstall it in minutes and i’m giving your some clue.

    1. make the notification voice configurable;

    2. don’t make users input there msn username and password again and again;

    3. make the font size, line-line gap configurable;

    4. on the msn conversation UI, you have a fring icon line, a msn contact name line. remove one line or merge them into one line. because when mobile virtual keyboard is toggle on the rest of space is very small.

    Hey, you forgot to mention the other addition introduced in this version: a new framework for serving ads (I thought the line spacing in the chat window had changed – I assume it’s related) and one you’ve actually started using.

    New: Fring with ads in your chat

    With the old vers of fring on my n95 I noticed when I called someone using skype on they’re computer there was this really annoying delay when I spoke which made it unusable,also the same problem with skypeout calls. I hope this issue is fixed in this new vers ? Excellent app and here’s hoping for future support for Motorola handsets’.

    I think these would be nice:
    * Fring webchat and mobile webchat like Meebo, ebuddy and Nimbuzz webchat.
    * facebook notifications, pokes, new message notifications on standby screen
    * Video calls via msn, yahoo and gtalk too
    * a cooler interface with animations (or just kinetic scrolling)
    * low battery and low bandwidth usage
    * ability to switch between front and back camera easily and while in a video call
    * custom theme color and/or skin support
    * custom notifications settings per contact, group, status change, etc…
    * chat history
    * ASCII and Messenger Plus! Live code support (or triming)
    * custom emoticons
    * set different status message of different accounts
    * a donation box on your website ;)

    Do you really think we have a big list of devices and we just have to tick the devices we want to support?
    It takes time.
    Video calls are not an easy task – Skype video calls are even harder.
    We’d love to support all the phones in the world but it takes time. We’ll have to do them one by one according to users’ demand + the possibility we have from the SDK available.

    Dear Mr. Omri
    First of all I would like to thank you and the fring team for all the effort you all have put into fring. Video calls was a very big sucess and I really dont know how to really appreciate the fring teams effort. All I see on all the comment is that people want the fring team to support all models but they really don’t know what trouble it really is behind all this. People don’t realise that this software is free and is not like other video calls software where you have to pay. eg. Octrotalk. I also have a Nokia E71 and all I can say is that I can wait how ever long it will take cause I understand. Anyway to finalise three cheers to the FRING TEAM and GOD BLESS !!

I didn’t mean to point a finger at you guys.. i know you’re working on it.. thank you.. and trust me i’ll be one of the first to download it once a video calls version is out for my phone.. will use it like no other!

    and thanks for the reply :)

    Please also give us an option to REMOVE that not needed “Fring Test Call”.

    Don’t worry we all know that we are using Fring, so this is really stupid to have it there.

    I see there are now commercials in messages… that stupid also, because those are for countries I have no idea that I will ever be there. At least put commercials for countries we are from.

    I hope you’ll work faster.
