3G video & voice calls now available on iPhone!

You wanted it, immediately after Apple allowed it, fring launches its 3G-friendly VoIP app.

With fring on 3G, users get unrestricted, mobile communication. Now iPhone fring users can call, video call, chat and more for FREE over 3G and wifi!

fring from anywhere from your iPhone. Take fring to beach, the ski slopes, or on the bus and enjoy the same always-on freedom millions of other fringsters on other platforms have enjoyed for years.

How do I get this update?

You don’t need to do anything to get this update. Just open fring on your iPhone and you are good to go!

If you still get the message that “voip calls are not allowed…” – Just click on “More” –> “Go offline” and open fring again.

Don’t yet have fring on your phone? Download it today and get on fun!

The fringTEAM

Note: Please check your cellular operator’s terms of agreement to make sure they allow voip calls on their network before using fring.

But the camera is on the back, right? How useful is this, really?

You just need to use a mirror…an iphone case including a small mirror in a pocket may be quite useful!

Funniest and most practical solution given that iphone was not designed for 2-way video communication :P
Seems like no matter what happens iphone gets the firsts hand in the apps business.
maybe cause there are millions of iphone users or fring doesnt want other cellular users who actually have the capability of 2way video calls to use thier service … apply has to be 1st come 1st basis

Video calls without a front facing camera are still tremendously useful. For example if you need to show someone how to do something. Or if you need to call from a store and show an item to verify that the item you are buying is the one your spouse wanted etc.

Come on the only purpose of being able to make video calls isn’t videoconferencing … you’d have to be shortsighted to think that!

Does not work with Skype add-on over Softbank 3G network in Japan with iPhone 3G. Just get endless red x on application and spinning loading icon. Wireless is fine but useless because Skype already works with wireless. Perhaps Softbank Japan blocks VoIP?
If so, it would be better if fring published a list of telcos known to NOT support this VoIP 3G function so we could avoid wasted time and bandwidth.

P.S. now when IPad will come out with microphone and loud speaker, hopefully apple will make ipad 2 with loud speaker and microphone we can use fring to call, and Internet, like this I will need only unlimited data plan for my mobile and will have no need in my land phone in order to use Internet, as Internet tethering can be used for both.

    Hi Guys,
This seems really great is it available on the HTC Evo coming out? Also, can I use CallArc with this service? I got a beta account with them and would really like to see it work with Fring… http://www.callarc.com

well? 1) it has a camera so fring should make an app for that, by that i mean like a 2nd app not related to it like for example autocam, and then use it on fring to make never ending video calls? just an idea.

… I’m so deceived by the actual fring release for Iphone. There has been no real update since december, 2009. The facebook chat plugin is still missing (at least it was at the moment when I deleted fring from my iPhone 4 weeks ago) and the twitter client is not really useful compared to other apps like Echofon because it does not immediately download the complete tweet history since your last connection and the usability i.E. if you want to filter an individual thread with the associated replies is not given at all.

I will reinstall fring – but only at the moment when it will finally have left its eternal beta/experimental level and present full functionality on all included communication channels, so that there will be no longer the need to have the proprietary facebook, skype, twitter, msn, googletalk, myspace etc. apps installed in parallel in order to access all options. I suggest to your developers: “If already you include functionality, make it at least as good if not better than the original app!”

Fring is amazing!! Very good for people who have loved ones overseas. This will crush the long-distance telecommunication companies that charges per minute of calls.
