Video calling breakthrough: fring with DVQ™
(Dynamic Video Quality)

Mark the day – 12/05/2010. The day fring introduced its proprietary DVQ video calling technology. Now we’ve heard lots of acronyms, but WTH is DVQ video?

According to our geek-tionary: DVQ™ is Dynamic Video Quality.

DVQ technology automatically, and continuously during a call, adjusts your video call quality to match your internet bandwidth at all times, giving you the best video and audio quality possible for your connectivity.

That means that rather than ‘making do’ with a basic, fixed video quality call, you get an optimized video quality that matches your calls’ available bandwidth. In math terms, our dev guys have gone from ‘lowest common denominator’ to best possible– wherever you are’ (Wanna know more? See our technical press release).

DVQ video calling means that you get the optimized call quality no matter if you are commuting to work, driving through a tunnel, or take a call while you step into an elevator.

Watch as Jonathan – a fring iPhone developer – steps into an elevator to demo fring’s DVQ technology

So- while fring was the 1st to bring you video calls way back in Nov’09, now you and tens of millions of your fringster friends can enjoy fring’s quality-optimized video calls.

It would be nice if Fring could just offer more options in their settings menu to try to switch to the front. Come on, guys. If Fring does not solve this problem by the time Google Talk gets video calling, I’ll be deleting my account with Fring.

I use this to watch/talk to my kids when I’m away from home. They have an ipod4G and I have a Nokia E52 so no HD but quality is decent and works over 3G too.

What is the maximum video resolution is Fring using ? I believe the front camera on classic 3G video call GSM devices like my Nokia E52 was VGA and if so then so is the front camera of ipod4/iphone4/ipad2. Whereas I heard new Android phones may have higher resolutions on front cameras.

There are two options. You either using the wrong password for that Yahoo account or you’re trying to login with the entire email address as the user ID when you only need to use your Yahoo user ID.
