fring 3.0 – Now with SIP!

fring now supports SIP (version 3.0)!

SIP on fring

You can now use your SIP account even from non-SIP enabled phones.
Choose whichever SIP provider you have and in just few clicks, start using this account to make calls to landlines, GSM phones, or to other SIP providers. What’s more, fring allows you to easily switch between them, without having to reconfigure your handset through a nightmarish process. Whether it is the GizmoProject, FWD, or any other SIP provider, fring is open to any SIP solution out there (as far as we know…. :-) )

Other features you’ve requested:

  • Unicode- all of those funny characters that appear as names should now be real letters! Of course it works on chat as well.
  • Blocked MSN users will no longer appear in your fring contact list and will remain as they should be – blocked :-)
  • Other bugs have also been fixed

If you want to be one of the first to check out this version, you’ll have to download fring again.  If not, you’ll receive an auto-update sometime very soon.

Known Issues for V 3.01 Symbian-9, V 3.00 Symbian- 8:

  • After calling an MSN buddy, you should wait approximately 30 seconds before attempting to call the same MSN buddy
  • fring might freeze while trying to exit the application during a GSM call
  • Symbian 8 – If you receive an SMS or any other sound event during a fring call, the call will mute (Next call will be fine)

We’ll appreciate any feedback regarding this new feature – happy fringing!

Hi,I’ve a BIG PROBLEM that maybe others fringers too:
I’ve used FRING (also the last v.3.0) from several weeks on my Nokia N80. All was OK.
Today I wanted to update my firmware’s Nokia N80 by the Nokia website. I did all with attention and at the end I’ve updated my cell from v. 3.0617.0.6 to v.4.0623.0.41. Then I downloaded and installed the FRING v.3.0 but my cell can’t open it because, it can’t “create a connection”, but with the previous version of firmware there are no problems. Why???The same problem is on my girlfriend’s Nokia N70.
The crazy thing is that I can use my broser wap and surf the net with this firmware. I think that FRING not support last Nokia’s firmwares, maybe. Is it true?

    Help me please,

    Liebegar.

P.S.:Is it possible to suggest videocall/videochat in next FRING’s versions???

    Hello!

    Yes! :) Finally SIP-phone is available :)

The only problems left with practical using of Fring for 3d Symbian:

    1) Not possible to switch to another Access point if original one (at least in case of WiFi) is not available. Only reinstalling of app helps. It would be much easy if there will be an option to select desired access point each time during Fring start.

    2) Still too low voice volume. And, btw, changing of volume level via volume control is not remembered, next start it is still on the original level (propably this is part of whole problem).

During the demo, there is a screen shot of a menu with fring as one of the items, so it is possible already. I getting my N95 tomorrow so I will try to see which phone software also works on n95. I suspect that it should be N93, most features are common between the two phones.

    Hi Team Fring,

I have been following the fring development since last 8 months. Can be proud to say that was probably one of the first one in my country to discover this. Have done a lot to popularize the effort of your team around myself and wherever i possibly can.

Fring is a great service and a boon to the mobile users of the world. With data gaining prominence over voice around the globe and service providers realizing this, heavy investments are going into high bandwidth networks, applications such as these will truely serve the mankind.

I am amazed at the speed the fring team is working at the development and they will surely gain from it.

There needs to be a better marketing effort to penetrate deeper and wider across the globe. A lot less people know about fring today. The potential is incredible.

I am absolutely floored by the product and again congratulate the team!

    Hello Chaps

    Excellent software – very impressive.

Like everyone I am delighted to see you’re getting SIP working from mobiles !

However I’m a SIPGATE user, and try as I may I can’t get Fring to log in to my SIP account. Am I missing something – can you define the syntax needed when entering the proxy and the UserID ? SIPGATE has a record of both an email address and a usual username – not immediately clear which should be used for UserID.

If you could give some SIPGATE connection tips that would be very welcome.

Can you also tell us what the typical BIT RATE is during a Fring call, so we can compute data costs ?

    Thanks

    Mike H

    Try this:

    Login to SIPGate.com.
    Go to Settings.
On right hand side, click SIP Credentials.

A popup will provide you with SIP proxy, ID, and Password. They will be very different from your Sipgate login or email or account password.

Excellent. I am using 3.07 on a nokia n95. I make international calls, skype out calls and msn chats. It even works in my car through my Bluetooth car kit when I am driving.

There are a couple of small teething problems but all in all it is saving me loads of money.

By the way I am using Orange who have killed the VOIP capabilities of the phone to try and get people to make international calls on their network.

Well done guys, keep the good work and let me know if you want a beta tester
