1st ever Group Video – Now in Limited Beta

The dev team is putting the finishing touches on a super cool new service: free, mobile Group Video Calls.
We are having too much fun with it already, and want to get some feedback from users ahead of public launch on Android & iPhone.

Of course, this is super-exciting as it’s the 1st time the world will get to enjoy free Group Video calls. This fring-feature lets 4 friends video call each other simultaneously, making it a mobile video calling party of sorts.

So, if you don’t mind a little bit of set up, we’d love to invite a limited number of our users to give us some ‘real world’ feedback on the service. As this is a product in testing, you may find the odd bug or wrinkle, thanks for your patience and please let us know if you find one.

If you love video calling, are keen to provide feedback and are interested in joining this limited beta, please fill out this form.

Thank you for the tremendous response to the Group Video Beta.
As of April 7th 6am (PST), there are no more beta slots for iPhone. If more become available, we will update the blog. We will continue processing Android beta testers. To apply, please complete the Beta request form

Sneak a peek of what Group Video is all about:

It seems like a big step, but I was hoping more for a PC version. Who cares if I can call multiple people at the same time, if I can’t call them at all cause they don’t have smartphones.

Wrong priority list Fring team! But a great idea nonetheless, congratulations!

i somewhat agree with max on this with having a pc version. especially with this group calling because bandwidth must be much higher which may confine you to your home wifi. in which your limited on your mobility anyways.

not everyone has a phone capable of using fring so it really reduces the number of people who would want to use fring. if people know their friends or family do not have fring capable smartphone but they have one they will not use it because they have no one to use it with.

I second your opinions Max. I was so hoping for a fring desktop client.

Group video on mobile ? Sure, it seems a bit fun indeed, but is it more useful compared to a mobile to PC call ? I don’t think so, and I’m sure the majority of fring users think the same.

Actually now I’m beginning to realize that fring probably doesn’t have an interest in developing a desktop client at all, because they want to keep their users on phones, where fring can make some income (fringOut, adds, etc).

And as a Symbian user (which was not long ago fring’s primary development platform) I can only be disappointed by the lack of development, compared to iPhone and Android version, which get new feature after feature.
    Sigh…

I can’t want for the new Fring to be released.

But Fring still needs to add the ability to add people to their buddy lists (such as AIM). Right now all you can do is add other Fring users.

And the reason I can never stay with Fring is you can’t add individual buddies and there is no way to block anyone. Not to mention the fact there is no “friends only” option.

Tango is working on it and in few weeks will be up what about fring? I want pc to fring support. Not to mention for work scale boss behind pc in office fring workers in the field. awesome way to communicate. So come on fring catch up.

Group video now in beta, that’s awesome! Group video chat is definitely the way to go, but hopefully we can get some carriers (cough, AT&T) to launch LTE networks so the bandwidth is there to make it happen. Right now unless you’re on Sprint, Verizon or have Wi-Fi, a group video chat would be pretty difficult running on 3G, don’t you think?

justin f this is stupid, most people still do not have any smartphones, and fring out is even better to do from a desktop client or over sip.
most people do not use fring cause they have noone to call, most people use desktop and laptops and netbooks. And also groupvideo chat on a smarphone? Ha Ha Ha, you need a magnifying glass to see the people. Foget about it. Really.
