fring now supports Windows Mobile 5 and 6
Welcome users of about 300 Windows Mobile handsets and PDAs!
fring for Windows Mobile 5.0 & 6.0 handsets works just like our Symbian for Nokia version with:
• Full fring mVoIP functionality – free calls, chat & presence over any Wi-Fi, 3G or GPRS connection
• fring, Skype, Google Talk, MSN & GSM buddies in one integrated contact list
• twitter support
• Skype-out & hundreds of SIP providers supported
• Turn your SIM–less, Wi-Fi enabled PDA into a mobile phone
Get a first glimpse on how it works right here…
p.s – UIQ users… we did not forget you. We’re polishing a version for you and it should be ready soon.

[...] Back in February I posted a blog entry on how S60 was in the lead for mobile VoIP and it seems that now Windows Mobile is catching up with the release of a new client. The excellent mobile VoIP application, fring, is now available for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices. The same powerful functionality and connectivity as you have seen on the S60 platform is available for Windows Mobile. Thus you get fring, Skype, Google Talk, and MSN integration as well as Twitter support. I used Skype before, but it is still in beta and has some issues so I look forward to trying fring on my T-Mobile Dash and also a T-Mobile Wing. [...]

My windows mobile 6 phone is in the mail right now, it is an HP IPAQ 514 Voice commander.
If I get fring working on this, I will be distributing and recommending this URL to the entire internal workforce of my company.
I will be back…

Will the WM version allow the use of the phone’s native speakers and mic instead of requireing the use of an external speaker/mic like previous voip apps running on WM5 (as experienced in Atom/Dopod rigs?

I have to echo Danny’s (11) concerns about which speaker the sound is output. This is a highly important distinction in that sound coming from the speakerphone tends to sound awful, nevermind the lack of privacy. Also, I am unable to use my noise-cancelling bluetooth headset in conjunction with Fring, a real shame. For this feature alone, I would pay good money. Skype hasn’t managed to get this right either, so this is your time to differentiate yourself in the mobile market, Fring. Hop to it!

Hi. I was informed recently that there’s not support for chinese models with windows mobile. I succesfully installed fring on my iphone clon and it worked (not very good but at least it worked) but more recently the program entered an endless loop and I had to uninstall it. It would be fantastic to have fring on these devices since they’re cheaper than regular models and don’t force the customers to go into a 2 or more year contract with the GSM provider. I guarantee the fring software will skyrocket users if developers make it suitable for these handhelds. Any idea if fring has this issue in mind?

Hi,
To be honest the windows mobile platform hasn’t been developed or advanced in years, and we are currently preferring to improve and further along the more advancing platforms, such as the ones you mentioned. As the windows phone is gaining popularity we are considering developing for it as well. So keep tuned with our blog for further updates.

If you not support Windows Mobile devices, why you can’t give link to old version? All WM users can use it, but must be notet, that there’s no longer development for this OS.

Hi,
We don’t want to release an unreliable product. Our system has developed and changed, so the old version won’t necessarily work.
Thanks for your feedback though, we’ll take it into account.
