A new version of fring for Windows Mobile (3.34)

We’re delighted to announce a new version of fring for Windows Mobile devices, including Sony Ericsson’s new super cool Xperia and Samsung Omnia.

In this version, you’ll find the new & improved fring Add-ons – fun, interactive mobile internet apps that sit inside your fring, allowing you to take your Facebook account mobile, receive Gmail notifications and loads more.

Plus, we’ve included our popular File Transfer function – you can now send digital files to all your fring, Skype, MSN & Yahoo buddies at the click of a button.  No need for Bluetooth pairing, no wires, no infrared and no costly MMS charges.  Just select a buddy, click send, and before you can say “Who’s seen my data cable?” the file has been received.

The navigation & functionality have been improved with a new ‘Go- To menu’, Privacy and ‘Joystick-In’ settings, typing indication and new Add-Ons Managment screen, all make the whole fringing experience even smoother.

Finally, if you’re an HTC user, we now support earpiece use, as well, so you can keep your conversations all to yourself.

On a final note, we want to thank our friends at Microsoft for recognizing fring and awarding us their “Designed for Windows Mobile” certification, indicating products that are compatible with Microsoft Windows Mobile powered devices.

These improvements have been brought about in response to fringsters giving us their feedback, and as always, keep ‘em coming!

C u

The fring team.

It’s junk. It does not work on HTC Touch-Pro from Sprint. Nothing happens after installation. The icon created in Program file is dead.

Wonder if you guys did any testing on HTC instruments before making statements like, “Finally, if you’re an HTC user, we now support earpiece use, as well, so you can keep your conversations all to yourself”.

    Have a good year.

something’s wrong with your phone. i installed on htc touch hd, it’s working perfectly. love the earpiece feature. that alone is winning over skype. my only suggestions is that it LOOKS LIKE some of the fring’s graphics are still from the QVGA days. make be it’s just me. but VGA graphics would be nice.

    [Reply]

    TheWebMachine Reply:

Your device is WVGA so even VGA graphics are going to look a little distorted. Granted, they aren’t necessarily top quality on my TPro but they really don’t look like the QVGA versions. I can imagine they look a little screwed up on yours. Unfortunate about WVGA…devs not taking them into consideration just yet.

Thanks for the upgrade; I like the new features.

I have noticed that while scrolling a conversation each press up/down (or 1/4(ish) turn of the scroll wheel) only moves the view 1/3 of a text line. Is it possible to get it back to scrolling one line at a time?

    Thanks again.

Hi! I am eager to install and use this on my Windows Mobile smartphone.

I have ordered a BenQ E72 smartphone with Windows Mobile 6 Professional and have been told that the original Skype for windows app does not support audio output through the earpiece but instead routed through the rear loudspeaker! Needless to say it will be very inconvenient.

Can someone confirm if the new version supports output through the earpiece instead of the loudspeaker? If so, I am going to be a diehard Fring user!(love it lots!) or is this update supported only for HTC devices? Any replies would be GREATLy appreciated! thanks a LOT!!

I’m not sure that it is a Fring problem, because QuickGPS do the same.

After installing Fring I tried SIP VOIP calls using FRING by connecting through the Datacable with the support of Microsoft ActiveSync. On top of the Fring logo it displays WIFI Fring. It really works fine.

But when I unplug the Datacable the Fring gets a X mark on top of the fring logo and I could not connect to internet. When ever I start the Fring software with out my Datacable connected I get these following messages

    1. “Could not establish connection to the fring network. Would you like to start automatic search?”
    2. Fring can’t work without Internet connection. Would you like to return to access point selection?

I still could browse through the internet with my WIFI using Internet Explorer.

My question is I have WIFI enabled but how do i make the Fring application get connected with out the DATACABLE ?

To everyones that’s saying that fring is buggy running it on windows mobile, the answer is simply windows mobile is rather VERY bloated and due to the OS itself, Symbian was written from ground up to be a very efficient Phone OS while Windows Mobile / Windows CE was written more then 13 years ago to be a real time OS that was ment for PDA’s and devices and the such. Thats why Fring for Windows Mobile is so buggy. Also the nokia phones are just that! PHONES! they have hardware that is designed JUST to be that. While Windows Mobile phones are PDA’S with add on for phone (Windows SmartPhones are Phones FIRST then pda 2nd). I’m a hardcore windows man since CE 1.0 and thinking of getting a Nokia just to run fring.

So all you people that seem to be blaming Fring for their app. Blame microsoft and your hardware maker! (sooo many HTC designs and all of them different. Just like PC’s while nokia is like APPLE, Hardware and software.)

I don’t know exactly what I’ve done to let it work and after to let it finish, but I suppose is something on de registry, into the fring’s connection manager. It’s supposed to be ready with activesync, but not with WiFi and Bluetooth connection to external modem. I’m getting crazy, also because the first day I’ve done the right thing without knowing it, the second I do something unsuspectable and the party is finished. Windows Mobile is not supported now. How long until other operating systems are dropped? My WM6 phone isn’t a year old but has been dropped my most software houses. Who can afford a new phone every year, complete with accessories and any software that can’t be used on a new machine? I can’t.
