TRAI: Number Portability to be introduced

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India announced the implementation of Number Portability. This will enable mobile users to switch to any operator and at the same time still retain the same contact number. The TRAI has suggested a phased implementation of the Number Portability starting off with the metros and then the rest of the country. Though studies suggest implementation of Number Portability in a mature mobile market; looking on Netherlands with less than 10% mobile penetration TRAI feels this move will increase overall net benefits.

Given a choice “30% of mobile users will change their operator”. (Result from a study conducted by IDC) I’ve been hearing this from sometime now and so looking forward to change my operator. :D
